Dr. Carina Bauman earned her PhD in Linguistics from New York University. Her dissertation examined the language practices of an Asian American sorority at a major U.S. university, and was supported by a Doctoral Dissertation Research Improvement Grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF DDRIG #1349147: "Language and Identity among Ethnic Minorities", 2014-2016). Her research interests include language and identity, sociophonetics, and language attitudes. She has taught classes in many different areas of linguistics and also has extensive experience teaching English as a second language, both in the U.S. and abroad.
