教育背景 Education Background

2020 Graduated with a Ph.D. in Painting from the Graduate School of Hongik University

2015 Graduated from the Department of Fine Arts,

Graduate School of Jeju National University, majoring in Western Painting

2013 Graduated from the Department of Fine Arts, College of Arts and Design,

研究领域 Research Field

I visually express the processes of memory formation, transformation, and dissolution through various media including cyanotype, vanishing woodcut, enamel painting, and digital drawing. Using Jeju Island's beautiful natural landscapes and historical events like the April 3rd Incident as subjects, I artistically explore the intersection between personal and collective memories. Through a neuroaesthetic approach to human perception and memory processes, I demonstrate that memory is not simply a record of the past but a complex process that is continuously reconstructed. Focusing on the loss of traditional culture and regional identity in rapidly changing modern society, I attempt to preserve and reinterpret these elements through art. My work encourages viewers to reflect on their own roots and memories, reminding them that memory is a crucial element in shaping the present and future

教授课程Courses Taught

- Courses Taught

Developed and taught various courses that integrate my artistic research on memory and visual expression with practical design skills and diverse technologies. The following courses reflect content that connects modern design education with my artistic background:

1) Foundation Courses

- Fundamentals of Illustration: Explores various illustration techniques for visualizing memory and personal narratives, utilizing both traditional methods and digital tools. - Fundamentals of Form: Studies how visual cognition and memory influence the interpretation of basic shapes, and teaches methods to use these as effective design elements.

- Fundamentals of Drawing: Investigates drawing methodologies based on observation and memory, experimenting with digital drawing and various materials across different media.

2) Intermediate Courses

- Brand Planning and Brand Thinking: Analyzes how cultural memories and collective experiences influence brand identity formation, and teaches methods to utilize these in developing effective brand strategies.

- Visual Design with AI: Explores creative expression methods using artificial intelligence tools, and practices how principles of memory and neuroaesthetics can be applied to AI-generated images.

3) Advanced Courses

- Regional Identity and Digital Storytelling: Researches methods to express the nature and historical narratives of specific regions through digital media, reinterpreting regional identity in contemporary contexts.

4) Specialized Workshops

- Digital Art and Memory Visualization: Practices various techniques for expressing personal/collective memories through digital media, exploring the meaning of digital archiving in contemporary society.

5) Theoretical Seminars

- Memory and Identity in Contemporary Design: Explores the significance of preserving cultural identity and memory in a rapidly changing digital environment, discussing the social responsibility of designers.

- Neuroaesthetics and User Experience Design: Studies how human perception and memory processes can be applied to user experience design, seeking the fusion of scientific principles and creative expression.

My teaching approach seeks a balance between artistic sensibility and practical design skills, helping students creatively combine tradition and modern technology. While exploring new expressive possibilities using AI technology, I emphasize that personal memory and cultural context can add depth to design

简短经历 Short Bio

I am KIM SUYEON, a visual artist and professor at a Chinese art university specializing in Visual  Communication Design. My artistic practice explores the intersection of memory, perception,  and visual expression through various media including cyanotype, woodcut, enamel painting,  and digital drawing. With a distinctive focus on neuroaesthetics, my ongoing "Piece of Memories" series, which began in 2013, investigates how memories are formed, transformed,  and sometimes dissolved in our consciousness.

Drawing inspiration from Jeju Island's landscapes and historical contexts such as the April 3rd  Incident, I explore the junction between personal and collective memories. My work has been  showcased in over 20 solo exhibitions across South Korea and internationally, including at the  Louvre in Paris (2017), and in Madrid, Spain (2023). My notable exhibition series "Piece of  Memories_the Lost Pieces" demonstrates my continued exploration of memory reconstruction  through visual art.

I have participated in more than 100 group exhibitions throughout South Korea, France, UAE,  USA, and Taiwan, establishing myself as a significant voice in contemporary Asian art. My  contributions have been recognized through numerous awards, including multiple Special  Selections and Honorable Mentions at the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Art Exhibitions in  both Western Painting and Printmaking categories.

My artwork has been collected by prestigious institutions including the National Museum of  Modern and Contemporary Art Bank(Korea), National Maritime Museum(Korea), and Kangbuk  Samsung Hospital(Korea), and has been featured in publications such as Life and Culture  Magazine and Sotheby's International Realty magazine(HongKong).

As an educator, I teach various in Wenzhou Business college. My teaching philosophy balances  artistic sensibility with technical proficiency, encouraging students to explore the connection  between memory, cultural identity, and contemporary design practice.

I have received significant support from the National Cultural Arts Support System of Korea,  being selected for visual arts support projects through the Jeju Culture and Arts Foundation in  2015, 2018, 2023, and 2024. Through my ongoing artistic practice and academic work, I  continue to explore how memory functions as a crucial element in shaping identity and  understanding in our rapidly changing digital world
